First Atlantic Bank has donated assorted educational materials in support of the Kaneshie North “5” Primary School in Accra.
The items, which included reading and exercise books, were presented to the school as part of the bank’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
Nana Agyiri Boadu-Appiah, a relationship manager at the bank’s North Industrial Area branch expressed concern about the poor reading culture among children, and blamed computer games for the worsening situation.
“We need to inculcate the habit of reading among the younger generation and today’s presentation is a step towards bringing back the good old days when most schools had reading clubs which encouraged reading among pupils,” he said.
Madam Bertha Agbozo, headmistress of the school, who received the items on behalf of the pupils, gave the assurance that the school would continue to counsel children on the benefits of reading.
In addition, she said the school would consider setting up a reading club to promote the culture of reading among the pupils, and thanked the bank for the assistance.
