Joy News David Andoh assaulted by assemblyman

Joy News photo journalist, David Andoh, was allegedly assaulted by an assemblyman and a group of people at Mantse Agbona (James Town), a suburb of Accra yesterday.

Mr Andoh was part of the media team embarking on the ‘Clean Ghana’ campaign to rally citizens to their civic responsibility to keep the country clean.

He was punched, shoved and kicked in different parts of his body.

They subsequently pushed the journalist to the ground, an action that crashed his camera.

The matter has since been reported to the James Town police who have begun an investigation.

Identified as James Addo (aka Zola), the assemblyman smashed the journalist’s camera while another person slapped him from behind demanding that the team vacate the area.

The assemblyman also mobilised the community against the team embarking on the campaign at the sprawling community.

Police personnel accompanying the media had to call for reinforcement to avert a possible attack by the residents.

The assemblyman fled the scene on a motorcycle shortly afterwards sensing danger.

The incident occurred when the inspection team spotted a home in which a woman was selling too close to a toilet facility. A bunch of riped plantains she was frying were also placed close to a wall.

A waste dustbin used by the tenants in the house was also placed very close to where the bunch of plantains was placed.

After a short interaction with the food vendor who placed the plantain close to the waste bin, the public health officials attached to the ‘Clean Ghana’ campaign team ordered the plantains to be removed immediately.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly taskforce, also part of the campaign, then began to remove the plantains, however,  the assemblyman, James Addo, mobilised the youth to counter them on the street.

Public health officials who were part of the Joy Clean Ghana Campaign also apprehended owners of a household in the area because 25 tenants were using one toilet facility.

The health officials explained that the number of persons using the makeshift toilet facility made its use unhygienic.   Myjoyonline.com
