A three day Junior Tennis competition has ended at the National Sports College in Winneba. The Competition, organized by Zion Management Africa Limited (ZMAL) targeted children between the ages of 9-16 years and sought to help revive the sport and unearth talents for an international competition.
Winners from the competition will represent Ghana at the Champion Bowl World Championship from October 18-25, 2015.
The competition drew participants from Ashaiman, Ho, Obuasi, Cape Coast, Sunyani and the host town, Winneba. In all about 50 children participated in the singles Under 9, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 boys and girls categories.
Winners, runner ups and semi-finalists were presented with trophies and souvenirs from sponsors.
CEO of Zion Management Africa Limited (ZMAL), Mr. David Derhnick-Coffie, organizer of the event stated “Tennis, like other sports in the country has the strength of uniting people from different backgrounds and it is for this reason that we seek to use the Champion Bowl Tennis Tournaments to restore juvenile Tennis in Ghana”.
Mr. Erasmus Adorkor, Director of the National Sports College thanked the organizers for the initiative saying that the country has very talented young Tennis players hence the need for more of such competitions to unearth them. He took the opportunity to appeal to corporate Ghana to help Tennis in Ghana by providing the support to such organizations when they come knocking on their doors.
The event was sponsored by Indomie who fed the participants and officials with noodles,and provided boxes of indomie as well as exercise books for winners and participants.Melcom Ghana provided trophies for the winners. International organization, Wilson supported with tennis equipment.
