A 15-YEAR-OLD junior high student at Ho-RTC Down, has confessed to the police that he stabbed a coconut seller to death after the Independence Day parade here.
Following his confession last week, three suspects who were earlier arrested in connection with the murder, have all been released by the police.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Apeatu Adabo-Frikyi, the Municipal Crime Officer, disclosed these to The Ghanaian Times here on Monday.
He said the distraught relatives of one of the innocent suspects arrested earlier, sought the assistance of neighbours to gather information which revealed that the JHS student was actually the one who stabbed Wisdom Amu Aforo, 19, who tried to break up a fight between members of a gang that afternoon.
“So they arrested him and brought him over to us,” the Crime Officer said.
According to him, the boy whose identity could not be disclosed, made a brief appearance before the Ho District Magistrates Court last Thursday and was remanded in police custody to enable the police to continue their investigations into the matter.
“He will appear before the court again very soon and that is all I can tell you now,” the crime officer added.
The stabbing incident took place about 100 metres away from the house of the deceased.
According to an eye-witness account, some vendors at the scene tried to revive the young man as he groaned in a pool of blood before hiring a taxi to convey him to the Ho Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
