Jealous Woman Burns Ex-Hubby, Wife And Daughter To Death

IMG_9927Out of jealousy and hatred, and for vengeance, a 33-year-old woman, allegedly set her ex-husband, his wife and daughter ablaze at Tantra Hill in Accra and went into hiding.

Afua Badu, a chop bar operator, was however, arrested at her hideout at Spintex in Accra, during which, she is said to have broken down in tears, and confessed to the crime.

Afua, is said to have been married to the deceased, Peter Amos Asorbayire, 35, an employee of the DHL in Accra, for the past seven years and has two children with him.

She is reported to have poured kerosene on the windows of the house and set them ablaze.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu, briefing the media in Accra yesterday said, the police had information around 12:00 midnight that there was a fire outbreak in an uncompleted house near Old SNNIT Flats, Tantra Hill, Accra.

Personnel from the Command with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), were deployed to the area and put out the fire at about 2 a.m.

DCOP Yohonu said Asorbayire and the new wife, Felicity Asorbayire and their two-and-half-year-old daughter, Sarah, were found burnt to death, but the two other tenants escaped unhurt.

The Police and the GNFS suspected foul-play and upon intelligence reports, arrested Afua from her hide-out at Spintex.

She broke down and confessed to the crime when the police interrogated her about the burns on her body.

He said the suspect reportedly told the police that she committed the act out of vengeance, hatred and jealousy, after his husband abandoned her and their children for a new wife, following some misunderstanding, a few months ago.

The bodies have since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary.

The case is to be transferred to the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service, for further investigations, after which suspect would be put before court. By Anita Nyarko
