A jealous husband who poured acid on his wife upon suspicion that she was cheating on him, has been arrested by the police after going into hiding for over a year.
Yaw Frimpong Adakwa, 37, a driver, and the victim, Joyce Frimpongmaa, 32, have been married for the past 14 years with three sons.
The couple resides at Teshie Malik, but due to a misunderstanding, the woman moved to Teshie Tsui Bleo with the children, a development Adakwa was not happy about.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, Commissioner of Police (COP) Prosper Agblor said on January 13, 2014 at about 4:00 a.m., Adakwa laid ambush and poured the acid on the wife when she was preparing “koko” for sale.
Adarkwa, according to COP Agblor had been suspecting the wife of cheating on him and had confronted her about it several times.
“On that fateful day, Adakwa covered himself with a piece of cloth, hid himself behind a container with the intention to pour the acid on his wife. But the wife saw and questioned him as to what he was doing there at that time. Adakwa quickly pulled the acid from the cloth and poured it on his wife,” he said.
COP Agblor said the woman raised an alarm which attracted people who took her to hospital, but Adakwa managed to escape and went into hiding.
He said the acid affected the right part of the victim’s neck and scalp and also caused severe burns at her back.
He said on July 17, 2015, police intelligence led to his arrest at “Pain”, a suburb of Teshie in Accra.
