RESPECTED football administrator John Frederick Mensah has launched a campaign for election into the Executive Committee (Exco) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to enable him bring his rich experience to bear on the future of Ghana football.
Known popularly as J.F, the 57-year-old Geodetic Engineer who has rich experience in football and business administration, project management, tourism and good working knowledge in accounting, believes the time has come to be given the chance to prove his mettle.
J.F. is riding on the back of newly-promoted elite side Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs for his campaign — having served as Board Secretary for the club since 1984 to date.
“I’m determined to contribute my quota to the development of Ghana football at the Executive Committee level and I pray the electorate will consider me worthy this time around for the slot,” he told the Times Sports yesterday.
According to the self-effacing personality, when given the nod, he would use the experience gained from the various football committees he had served on to brighten the face of the Exco.
Mr. Mensah has served as member of the Players Status Committee from January 2015 to date; member of the Premier League Board (March 2006 — December, 2014), secretary of the then Organisation of the Ghana League Clubs Association (OGLCA) for more than 15 years, past member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) among many other sub-committees of the GFA.
He has chalked a lot of successses as management member of Dwarfs which saw the club participate in the CAF Cup Competitions on two occasions between the years 2000 and 2014. J.F also played a key role as a member of the Premier League Board (PLB) which adopted effective strategies and implemented new initiatives which saw a lot of transformations in the Board between the years 2006 and 2014.
As the Vice Chairman of the PLB Awards Committee, he played a key role which successfully organised the events from the 2010/2011 to the 2013/2014 football seasons.
Mr. Mensah is at present the General Manager of the Ghana Tourist Development Company Limited in Accra, having held the post from December 1, 2009 to date.
Some of the officials contesting for the Exco seat are Kudjo Fianoo (Ashantigold), George Afriyie (Liberty Professionals), Kingsley Osei Bonsu (Bechem United), Samuel Opoku Nti (Asante Kotoko), Frank Nelson Nwokolo (Hearts of Oak), Nab Benjamin Eyison (Sekondi Hasaacas), Kwaku Abakah Eyiah (Tarkwa United), Kurt E.S. Okraku (Dreams FC), Jones Abu Alhassan (RTU) and Habiba Atta Forson (Women football) among many others.
Newly-elected members of the National Executive Committee will be sworn in at the GFA Ordinary Congress slated for October, next month.
