J.B Danquah murder case adjourned to March 21

The Criminal Division “2” of the Accra High Court has adjourned to March 21, 2019, the case in which Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Bosso are standing trial for the alleged murder of Mr Joseph Boakye (J.B) Danquah-Adu, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa-North.

The case was expected to be heard yesterday, but the court did not assign reason(s) for not sitting.

Earlier at the Accra District Central Court, Asiedu, also known as (aka) ‘Sexy Dondon’ pleaded not guilty to murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery, while Bosso, a.k.a Junior Agogo who was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery has also pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Danquah-Adu was murdered in cold blood at his residence at Shiashie, a suburb of Accra, on February 8, 2016.

Asiedu and his alleged accomplice were arrested a few days after the murder, charged, and arraigned.

On May 29, 2017, the Attorney-General entered nolle prosequi to discontinue the trial of the accused, and they were discharged, rearrested and fresh charges preferred against them.

On February 6, the Central District Court committed the accused to stand trial at the high court.

Conducting the committal, Ms Sefakor Batse, a senior state attorney, charged Asiedu and Bosso with conspiracy to commit robbery, while Asiedu was separately charged with murder and robbery.

She told the court that the state would call 11 witnesses and also rely on 29 exhibits to prove its case at the trial.

Presenting the facts of the case, Ms Batse said Asiedu and Bosso planned to go on a robbery spree, but due to a misunderstanding, Bosso did not partake in the act.

According to her, Asiedu went to the MP’s house on February 9, 2016, around 1am and robbed him of his three mobile phones.

She said Asiedu stabbed Mr Danquah-Adu in the process leading to his death.

Ms Batse said that Asiedu gave two of the phones to a repairer to unlock, but the repairer saw blood stains on the phone and caused his arrest.

Prosecution said Asiedu later led police investigators to arrest Bosso.

On January 15, 2019, Asiedu staged a drama in court when he appealed to the state to engage the services of International Criminal Court (ICC) lawyer to enable him to defend himself.

He told the Accra Central District Court presided over by Ms Arit Nsemoh that, getting a lawyer of international repute was crucial to his case.

However, his alleged accused, Bosso, said he needed the service of any lawyer.
