The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr Kwadwo Nuamah has appealed to traditional authorities to refrain from partisan politics.
“Involvement of chiefs in partisan politics has dire consequences and in order to ensure peace, they should make sure they don’t take sides by vouching for a particular candidate during campaign seasons,” he noted.

Dr Nuamah commended the efforts taken by the President to bring peaceful solution to the Dagbon crises, hoping that the Mediation Committee led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will facilitate the peace process between the factions.

Touting some achievements of the Asantehene in enhancing peace, order and unity among traditional authorities in the Ashanti Region, he was optimistic the agreement the Abudu and Andani feuding factions to perform the funerals of the late two Yaa-Naas of Dagbon will pave way for an amicable relationship between the two sides.

“Chiefs should abstain from partisan politics, it’s very disturbing to see a chief campaign for a particular candidate or be on a platform to campaign even though you will have some benefits as a candidate,” Dr Nuamah bemoaned.

The Committee of Eminent Chiefs who have been working on the Dagbon crises on November 21, 2018 presented their recommendations on solutions to the crises to President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

The Asantehene-led Mediation Committee on the Dagbon peace process has successfully facilitated an agreement between the Abudu and Andani feuding factions to perform the funerals of the two late Yaa-Naas of Dagbon to pave way for lasting peace.

The mediation committee resolved that the Abudu Royal Family performs the funeral of the late Ya-Naa Mohamadu Abdulai IV, beginning December 14 to 28, 2018 while the funeral of the late Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II be performed on January 4 to 18, 2019.

The Abudus and Andanis have, over a decade, been looking for ways and means to resolve their long time feud, the President, after assuming office, has assisted by committing his time, resources and energies to eliminate suspicions that may affect the peaceful process in unifying the two parties. –
