INTERPLAST Ghana Limited has supported Ghana’s participation in the 2015 Davis Cup tournament with the donation of US$ 10,000 to the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).
The tournament is scheduled for Cairo, Egypt from October 26 to 31, 2015.
Ghana will be represented by the senior tennis team, the Golden Rackets with high hopes of gaining qualification from the African zone – Group 3 – to the more lucrative Euro-Africa zone.
Ghana’s team is made up of George Darko, Japhet Bargabasseh, Wisdom Na-Adjrago and Pascal Ziyab Alome and is currently in Morocco for a training tour.
Interplast’s intervention casts a bright picture for the GTF which risks a suspension from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) if Ghana fails to participate in the tournament.
It also means the team could travel to Egypt straight from their Moroccan tour instead of an earlier arrangement to travel back to Ghana to know their fate.
Secretary General of the Federation, Miss Phillipina Frempong, expressed the federation’s gratitude to Interplast for their kind gesture and noted that more support is needed to make their participation a reality.
“The federation needs close to US$ 50,000 and these kind gestures from Corporate Ghana will make our dream of participating in this year’s Davis Cup tournament a reality.”
Miss Frempong made a call on Corporate Ghana to follow the likes of Mr. Daniel Makorley of Mcaan Group of Companies and Interplast and come on board to provide support to the federation.
