Former Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has said he is most suitable for the National Organiser position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), pointing to his bond with the grassroots as his trump card.
Mr Quansah made this assertion in an interview with the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday where he affirmed his decision to contest for the position currently held by Kofi Adams.
“I’m the best man for the job because I’m in close contact with the grassroots which must be strongly galvanised for effective participation.
“Having been MP for eight years, a Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Deputy Minister for Local Government, among others, there is none strongly connected to the people than me,” he told the Ghanaian Times.
Mr Quansah, popularly known as Shatta 1 in political circles, said the people need a strong sense of belonging, insisting that the grassroots ought to be galvanised and offered hope.
“With my rock-solid organisational skill as my trump card, I have what it takes to become an effective and functional national organiser of the great NDC,” stated the former Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West, who speaks impeccable Ewe, Ga and appreciable amount of Nzema.
He was hopeful the NDC would wrestle power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections.
The former Deputy Minister of Local Government, however, called for unity in the rank and file of the party “without which our efforts will be in vain”.
“Unity is what we need at the moment. It is all-too key.
“Indeed, no matter how strong my organisational skill and flair are, we can hardly succeed when there’s no unity. It’s akin to a General going to war with a fragmented army.”
It is not clear whether Mr Adams will contest the National Organiser position again, but a former holder of the same office, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, has already made his intentions clear on that.
