The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr John Kudalor, has commissioned an ultra modern District Police Headquarters at Asaam, Asante Mampong, in the Ashanti Region.

The project, which was solely sponsored by a private businessman, Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo, also known as Agya Ewiase of Asaam, would serve as a district office of the Ghana Police Service at Asante Mampong, as well as residence of the district commander and officers in-charge.

Addressing a gathering at Asaam, the IGP commended Mr. Marfo, for the gesture and appealed to other businessmen and women who have the capacity to emulate him to come to the aid of the Police in any way to help fight crime in the country.

“Effective law enforcement is believed to be a shared responsibility between the Police and the communities, the mandate of the Police can hardly be achieved without a collaborative effort between the Police, government, public, the business society such as financial institutions among others”, he said.

Mr Kudalor noted that infrastructure was one of the main challenges of the Police Service and that the increase in population and new settlements has caused the demand for the establishment of police stations in those areas.

“Infrastructure will continue to be a challenge of the service without the public and stakeholders’ support, this stems from the fact that, today, rapid population increases and development of new settlements demand reciprocal establishment of police stations in these communities”, he stated.

According to Mr Kudalor, the building had come at the appropriate time when armed robbers have been disturbing residents and traders on the Mampong-Ejura road, saying it would help the Police to respond to distress calls rapidly.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that, the edifice was the first District Police Headquarters in the country which was solely sponsored by an individual.
