‘I Am Proud To Hawk Kenkey’

kt_hammondA former Deputy Minister of Energy,  K.T. Hammond says he is not ashamed to have hawked kenkey (a maize staple) as a child.

The Adansi-Asokwa Member of Parliament and British-trained barrister, also said beside selling kenkey, he also hawked salt for his mother.

Mr. Hammond made the “proud” remark on Tuesday, after he was confronted and taunted by his political arch-rival in his constituency, Lawyer Evans Amankwah during a radio programme.

Mr. Amankwah called into the programme after Mr. Hammond insinuated that the Kumasi-based businessman was fraudulently claiming he was a lawyer.

After giving evidence of his law credentials, the former National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for Adansi-Asokwa then started to recount K.T. Hammond’s childhood history to show that he really knew what he was talking about.

In a riposte, K.T. Hammond said he felt proud to have hawked kenkey and salt to help his mother while growing up in the Ashanti region.
