Hunter mistakenly kills colleague

The New Abirem District Magistrate Court in the Eastern Region, has remanded into police custody, a hunter for shooting his colleague hunter, who he mistook for an antelope.

Suspect, Naa Kwasi, 40, is said to have mistaken Daniel Acheampong, 45, for an antelope, while they were both hunting in the Old Abirem Forest Reserve in the region.

The suspect, who has been charged with murder, will re-appear before court on September 6, 2017.

The body of Acheampong has been deposited at the Mamaso Community morgue for autopsy.

Inspector Gideon Boateng, Deputy Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghanaian Times, that Naa Kwasi reported himself to the Ntronan police station on August 10, 2017, after the incident.

Prosecution said the suspect told the police that he shot the deceased, mistaking him for an antelope.

Insp. Boateng said the police and some of the residents went to the scene and found the body of Acheampong with a single barrel gun and empty shells lying beside it.
