Security Services in the country and individuals in Tema and its environs were on Friday engaged in the Afriyie Fitness Club Hiking event which was held to commemorate the Republic Day celebrations.
In all, about 800 individuals were involved in the two and half hours event which saw participants climbing the Krobo Hill as part of efforts to keep fit.
Participants converged at the Tema Motorway after aerobics session at Devtraco in Community 25, Tema before heading to the Eastern Region to engage in the health walk.
Chief Executive Officer of the Club, Bernard A. Amankwah, described the event as a success considering the level of commitment displayed by the security services, other invited clubs and individuals both young and old.
“It was quite a difficult task as there were several obstacles on the way to the top of the hill but all the participants managed to get to the top which shows that people are beginning to take exercise and healthy activities seriously”, he stated.
He also expressed appreciation to the security services which included the police, army, navy, prisons and fire service for getting involved and assisting in making the event successful.
The aim of the hiking, he said, was to engage people and provide them with the opportunity to burn some calories as many are too busy to take time off their schedules and stretch their bodies.
The next event he said would be held on another public holiday and asked Ghanaians to look out for very entertaining and healthy activities scheduled for the year and participate accordingly.
