HTU granted accreditation to run degree in hospitality management

THE Ho Technical University (HTU) has been granted accreditation to run a four-year straight Bachelor of Technology degree in Hospitality Management.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga announced this at a press conference at the university last Thursday.

“We have started admitting students into the programme for 2019/2020”, he said, adding that there were five more programmes awaiting final accreditation.

They are Events, Leisure and Tourism Management; Agro-Enterprise Development, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Fashion Design and Textiles and Food Technologist.

Prof. Honyenuga said that as part of HTU’s plan to go international and become a world brand in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the university was building greater partnership with other universities across the globe.

That, he said was critical because HTU was being modelled in line with the German model University of Applied Sciences.

“To that effect, blending the German experience with the Ghanaian idea will help us to reach that point of unrivalled experience,” he added.

Pursuant to that, he said that HTU had won a three-year grant under the Erasmus-Plus programme, sponsored by the European Union for exchange between the institution and Rheine Waal University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

Under the exchange programme, he said, two batches of staff and students had already been to Germany, stressing that a similar programme was underway with Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

Prof. Honyenuga said the HTU was also receiving grants from the Skills Development Fund (SDF) to train and equip industry players in various areas of trade.

He said the SDF had approved an amount of GH¢32,840 to HTU for Digital Boost Training for Small Businesses, in addition to GH¢247, 320 for Developing and Innovative Tailor-made Training Modules for tile layers in the construction industry.
