It is to select players for the national tennis team, the Golden Rackets.

The event held in collaboration with the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) and Tenolf Sports Ghana (TSG) has attracted over 200 young tennis players from 12 tennis clubs countrywide.

The maiden edition is being held for the Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 categories.

The participating clubs include: Korle Bu Tennis Club, Stadium A, Stadium B, Flipper, Atomic, Kaneshie Complex, Sakumono, 37 Amtec, Baboo Academy, St. Francis Foundation, Ghana Club and the Winneba Sports College.

The founder and president of HPT, Mr. Enock Godi, a former Davis Cup player stated that he was motivated by the desire to see the sport become a common game in the country.

“This will be an annual ritual but going forward we will introduce quarterly activities to engage the children; we will provide the necessary equipment to help the young talents develop,” he said.

GTF boss, Aboagye Duah said it was a way of identifying and grooming new talents for the national team.

“Our focus is to identify young talents and groom them to form the national team to represent the country in January at the West Africa Junior Championships for the Under-12, 14 and 16. The selected players will be camped and trained at the Winneba Sports College to spend more time on the court. We want to raise champions,” he said.

The HPT clinic and club competition will run from September 5-8, 2018.
