Togbe Afede XIV, Board Chairman of Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited, has said the club was keen on investing for the future despite the challenging conditions prevailing in Ghana.

He said the Board of Directors has plans to invest in the recruitment of more qualified and professional hands to modernise the club.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the club on Wednesday, Togbe Afede said, “The board has seen the need to recruit more qualified and professional hands to help modernise the club, with the introduction of Mr Noonan and other incoming hands.

“The club is also on course to build its training and hostel facility at Pobiman to house its youth teams, with two or more pitches of international standards.”

On the finances of the club, the Board Chairman noted that the club’s total assets stood at GH¢721,827, about four per cent higher than the 2015/2016 financial year with income increased by 43%, but the club had an increase in its liability by 38.5% from GH¢11,830.495 at the end of 2015/2016 to GH¢16,382,640 at the end of 2016/2017.

Mr Mark Noonan, Chief Executive Officer of the club also said, the club was focused on building a world class institution, with better infrastructure to attract international markets.

“We are operating on a lean workforce at the secretariat and need more qualified hands to help us build the things we desire.”

“We need an operating capital to bring the club to where you all want it to go and to be at and with the necessary measures and mechanisms in place, Hearts of Oak, would never be the same.

“We are competing with the world, but not in Africa alone, because football is a global language, and we have to develop with so much facilities and infrastructure just like the developed countries,” Mr Noonan said.

Wednesday’s meeting brought together stakeholders and fans of the club to discuss issues relating to the present and future state of the club.

The meeting was also to approve the remuneration of directors, to authorise the directors to negotiate and determine the remuneration of the Auditors, to confirm the appointment of three new directors and to authorise the directors to increase the Rights Issue from GH¢10milliom to GH¢30million. –GNA
