Hearts through to next stage… As Kotoko-Crocodiles game postponed

heartsACCRA Hearts of Oak pipped Elmina Sharks by a lone goal in their Round 64 MTN FA Cup fixture played at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

Isaac Oduro scored the only goal of the game through a spot-kick in the 14th minute though the penalty call raised some eyebrows as many felt referee Daniel Dagbator’s decision was questionable.

The game was almost marred as Elmina Sharks’ players objected to what they claimed was a harsh decision and walked towards the sidelines to meet their coach – exclaiming that the slight tackle on the Hearts attacker did not merit a penalty.

Elmina Sharks were consoled by their trainer and got back into the game with hopes of getting a goal to punish Hearts for the undeserved goal but lacked the needed creativity to find the back of the net.

Hearts also struggled to get another goal though they created few chances with the best of the half falling on the foot of Kwame Kizito in the 31st minute who surprisingly fired wide when he had only the goalkeeper to beat.

Though Kizito made some impressive runs in the area of their opponents, his final touches and passes were very awful.

The toast of the fans, however, was Elmina Sharks’ diminutive attacker, Tweneboa Benjamin who was a delight to watch with his amazing dribbling skills and deft touches.

The player, who operated from the flanks had a couple of chances in the final minutes but could not find the back of the net.

Sharks dominated the second half and played some great football to the admiration of fans but could not get the equaliser.

Hearts have therefore qualified to the next round of the competition and would be waiting for the opponents when the final rounds of matches are played today.

Meanwhile, the Kumasi Asante Kotoko-Paga Crocodiles Round of 64 clash slated for Paga yesterday has been posponed to March 25.
