ACCRA Hearts of Oak defeated Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 in their week 28 game of the Ghana Premier League played at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

It was Hearts who declared early intentions of carrying the day with predator Patrick Razak stoking fire in the goal area of the visitors with his pace that left the duo of Kingsley Nteng and Dennis Korsah chasing his shadows.

Razak came hunting again in the 16th minute and was brought down at the edge of the box by Korsah.  The resultant free-kick was expertly converted by Winful Cobbinah for the opener.

Hearts went in search for more goals but Kwame Kizito made a hush of a great opportunity to increase the tally in the 25th minute.

Cobbinah turned provider three minutes later when he put through left back Joshua Otoo to coolly lob the ball over an onrushing Razak Issah in post for Dwarfs, for the second goal.

The goals seemed to have brought life into the visitors play as they came in droves in an attempt to pull a goal back but their efforts were thwarted by the defence marshalled around returnee defender, Insuah Musah and Robin Gnange.

On the 45th minute mark, Otoo who seemed to be struggling all afternoon, failed to check winger Alhaji Mustapha who delivered a beautiful cross into the box which met the head of striker Joseph Esso – and he directed it past goalkeeper Ben Mensah to reduce the deficit for his side.

The game became more lively in the second half with end-to-end action, drawing applauds from the crowd as players from both sides entertained them with some swift interpositional play.

It was not until the 57th minute that Hearts came close to increasing the tally but Musah missed a glorious header as he was a shade late to meet Cobbinah’s insightful cross.

Dwarfs hardly threatened the goal area of the Phobians, leaving them to make forays into their zone but the end result left much to be desired.

Coach of Dwarfs Ricardo Da Roacha in the 78th minute brought on the duo of Raphael Mensah and Albert Hammond for Stephen Bentil and Osman Mohammed to strengthen their midfield and attacking play, while his opposite number Frank Nuttall brought on Paul Acquah for Razak in the 86th minute,  but their inclusion did little to alter the scoreline.
