Hearts Is 103 Today

togbeAccra Hearts of Oak is 103 years today. Below is a statement issued by the Acting President of the Council of Patrons, Mrs. Aanaa Ennin on behalf of the club to commemorate the occasion.

ON behalf of the entire Hearts of Oak family, I wish to express our profound gratitude to the Almighty for sustaining our great club over the past five score and three years.

On the occasion of our 103rd anniversary, we also pay homage to the memories of the founding fathers of our great club for their extraordinary vision; Indeed, it is their rare foresight and pioneering efforts that have handed down to us this giant of a football club.

If the role of the founding fathers is commendable, no less is the yeoman efforts of succeeding generations of Phobians whose sacrifices have brought us this far.

In this regard, we wish to pay tribute to the illustrious members of the Hearts family who just passed on- beginning with our former “Abusuapanin”, Uncle Harry Romulus Sawyerr, “Wofa” Henry Quartey, Kwaku Adusei “Kanawu,” Nana Owusu Agyemeng and George Alhassan “Ga Mantse” all of who departed this earthly world last year.

We wish to observe with regret that our efforts on the field of play over the past year have not yielded the desired results.

However, we have noted with satisfaction and a great deal of anticipation that, the Board has taken some strategic decisions that should see our dear club reclaim its status as Ghana’s leading club.

The assembling of a rich and highly experienced technical team – undoubtedly the best in the Ghana Premier League in recent times – inspires a lot of confidence ahead of the 2014/15 season.

We have also observed that the above appointments and the subsequent recruitment of eleven (11) enterprising new players have led to an upsurge in supporters’ morale.

We urge the management of the club to capitalise on the renewed zeal of the fans to reorganise the supporters’ front for more effective

contribution to the club’s development.

In this regard, we are delighted to note that the Board is setting up the Hearts Executive Group, as well as embarking on a project to register the club’s supporters nation-wide.

We also commend the Club for the successful conduct of the longstanding National Chapters Committee elections.

We believe that this election will give the supporters’ front a new lease of life, energy and efficiency.

The reorganisation of the Chapters is the best tribute we can pay to the memory of Wofa Henry Quartey, the doyen of the Chapters organ of Accra Hearts of Oak, as well as Kweku Adusei “Kanawu”, one our most eloquent advocates on radio, both of whom left us last year.

The selfless services of all departed Phobians should inspire us to work harder at developing our club into the model that we want it to be.

The long-standing Pobiman Project in particular should be tackled aggressively to enable the club return to training there.

We hope that, by our next birthday, the full complement of ancillary facilities envisioned under the project would have been put in place.

It is our fervent prayer that, come next year, we will be celebrating our 104th anniversary with the Premier League trophy and boasting of a strong squad poised for a credible return to Africa.

On behalf of the Council of Patrons, I wish all Phobians a happy 103rd anniversary.

Phobia!!! Never say Die, until the Bones are Rotten.

Thank you and have a blessed 103rd Anniversary!
