Hearts, Ashgold Officials Disagree With GHALCA

HEAD coach of Ashantigold, Bashir Hayford has said there was no need for the replay of the Top-4 final, and that it is  time clubs and their supporters are respected in the country.

Both fans and officials of Ashantigold and Hearts of Oak were left in a state of uncertainty when the referee brought proceedings to an end after 90 minutes, with the scores level at 1-1.

Both teams were gearing up for the penalty shootout when word came in from the referee that the organizers have called for a replay of the finals at the Accra sports stadium, on a date yet to be announced.

This news did not go down well with both fans of Ashgold and Hearts of Oak, and the technical teams were not left out.

“We don’t know what is going on and this does not show respect for clubs and their supporters in this country”, the seemingly peeved Bashir Hayford mentioned after the game.

“We came here for a final and looking at the scores we knew we were going to take penalties, which we have prepared for, but the referee has ended the game without a winner, and the news I am getting is that, there will be a replay in Accra.”

“When was this decision taken and who took that decision without informing some of us? I don’t know about Hearts of Oak, but for me, no one said anything to us prior to the commencement of the game.”

The coach added that, though he sees the Top 4 as preparatory grounds for Clubs ahead of the league’s commencement, he had a timetable to keep and abide by adding that this might affect it.

But the Vice Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association has vehemently refuted claims that they suddenly decided to replay the final game of the Top 4 match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Obuasi AshantiGold after Sunday’s drawn game, but rather, it was an arrangement which had already been accepted by the clubs.

Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a one-all draw on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by AshantiGold SC in the finals of the Ghalca Top 4 Competition and supporters of both sides vented their spleen on the officials of Ghalca for using the competition to syphon money from them.

However, the Vice Chairman of GHALCA, Mr. Isaac Koomson, has denied that assertion, explaining that, both clubs were aware of the arrangent before the finals.

“We met both clubs before the game and the agreement was that, there will be a replay of the finals if the game ends in a draw. So, I don’t see why the supporters are behaving like that. Maybe, the clubs did not inform their fans”, Mr. Koomson said.

“We all know that the patronage is not encouraging, so anybody who says we are using the tournament to syphon supporters has not been fair”, he added.
