Hearts Add Voice To Cries Over Delayed Premier League

GrldnkrhThe board and management of Accra Hearts of Oak sporting club have expressed their displeasure over the delay in the commencement of the 2014/2015 football season.

Managing Director of the club Mr. Gerald Ankrah said that the economic effects of the delay are causing enormous financial pressure on the clubs.

He said clubs have recruited players at a high cost, salaries were being paid monthly, camping expenses are being incurred among other expenses without any revenue.

He noted that apart from the economic losses, the delay is likely to negatively affect the corporate outlook of the Ghanaian league in the era of club licensing which will also affect the chances of the clubs   attracting sponsorships.

“We as a club cannot understand why a simple disciplinary issue between two clubs cannot be solved by the football authorities and has travelled to this stage”.

Mr. Ankrah has therefore called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Premier League Board (PLB) to attach some urgency to the resolution of the issues causing the delay of the football season.

Meanwhile, former Black Stars defender, Sammy Kuffour, has mentioned that some members of the Ghana Football Association should blame themselves for what is happening between Alhaji Grunsah and the Association, adding that he feels this issue should not have traveled this length, reports sportscrusade.com.

The new season has been unduly delayed due to a protracted dispute between King Faisal and Aduana Stars.

King Faisal is in court fighting the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over their relegation to the second tier league whilst they have a protest pending.

The litigation however has been adjourned several times and that has cast dark clouds over the start of the football season which was earlier scheduled to begin last month, giving doubts if at all it would happen this year.

According to Kuffour, all efforts to have an out of court settlement of the matter has proved futile because Alhaji Grunsah does not trust some members of the FA, reports sportscrusader.com.

“I don’t believe that Alhaji is that wicked to say that he won’t settle this matter out of court because he is aware of what the court issue is doing to the players and their Clubs. But I don’t blame him because he is a very wise man and he knows what he is about.”

“I have heard that he is demanding to go ahead with the court issue and won’t take any money or listen to anybody.”

“That is because, once he takes the money and withdraws from court, it is these same FA people who will go out there and go and spread the news that, ‘ Oh Alhaji we gave him money that is why he withdrew the case from court’, and that I believe will affect his integrity.”

“It is not everything that happens indoors that must be made open or let outsiders know.”

“Honestly I will be very disappointed in Alhaji if he takes money and withdraws the matter from court. We must see this case to its logical conclusion”

According to Kuffour he is not supporting the action taken by Alhaji Grunsah neither is he condemning it, but he believes that the issue was taken lightly by the FA, hence traveling this far.

“As soon as the issue came, they should have dealt with the matter, but instead they waited and dragged it, and that to me annoyed Alhaji” he added.
