Asamoah Gyan – Out to prove critics wrong

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says the Black Stars face a ‘must-win’ situation in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sierra Leone.

The Black Stars fell 1-0 in Nairobi last month to Kenya and want to bounce back against the Leone Stars.

Gyan, who has missed the opening two Group H qualifiers, is making a return to captain the side.

The Kayserispor striker agrees the only way to placate the fans is by bagging the points tomorrow.

”We got back this afternoon so we just needed to do some shake up exercises but we didn’t do much but most of the guys are playing outside so it won’t affect our game,” he told the media after Monday’s training in Kumasi.

”We make sure we come back quickly because we lost our last game and everybody was disappointed and we are here to make the fans happy.

”So three maximum points is very important for us and that’s all we are working on.”

Gyan was excited to see many fans in attendance during the first training session of the Black Stars.

He said the numbers that thronged the stadium to watch their game was a big boost for the morale of the team in the build up to the match especially coming after a disappointing game against Kenya.

”Today is our first training and you could see a lot of fans here. I think we are happy for this training session,” Gyan said.

For him as an individual, Gyan is hoping for a good individual and team performance to prove his critics wrong.

When asked if he was in the right condition to face the Leone Stars, Gyan insists he will do his talking on the field as he has nothing to prove to anyone.

“I cannot use talk to prove my fitness. It’s only when the game comes on that you can judge whether I am fit or not. I don’t have anything to prove.”
