Gyan Scores 70th Goal For Club

Gyan-Al-Ain-newGhana national team captain Asamoah Gyan’s form is now scoring – as he has hit 70 goals in the United Arab Emirates. His penalty after 27 minutes gave Al Ain a 1-1 draw at home to Al Sharjah last Friday, but the big picture shows Asamoah is top scorer this season with 14.

The 14 have come after 11 league games this season, putting the former Sunderland man four goals clear of Brazilian Edgar Silva. Gyan made what many felt was a money-grabbing-but-career dampening move from the English Premier League to the Gulf in 2011.

It was a five-year contract signed on July 6, 2012 worth in excess £6.4million. But his form for club and country has been sparkling since then, becoming Ghana’s undisputed hitman in African tournaments and the World Cup qualifiers. His 70 goals in 60 games for Al Ain is simply validation of the move, as he said in a November interview: “My move to Al Ain has been great.” Gyan scored 21 goals in 22 matches in his first season and last season he had 31 goals in 22 league appearances. – supersport
