The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), has disconnected water supply to the Brong Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council for owing GH¢19,210.74.
It comes on the heels of a similar action by the Ashanti regional branch of the company, when they curtailed water supply to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and other agencies in the region.
The Public Relations Officer of the Company, Kwadwo Dase, who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times also revealed that the Regional Minister’s residence also owed the company to the tune of Gh¢163,306.99. The amount Mr. Dase said spanned from January, 2014 to March this year.
The amount includes that of the residence of the Deputy Minister, the presidential lodge and other chalets.
The company has also disconnected water supply to other institutions such as the Sunyani Prison, the Municipal Police Command and all five public Senior High Schools in the municipality.
The Regional Hospital in Sunyani and the Sunyani Nurses’ Training College which owe GH¢178,000 and GH¢33,000 respectively, have all been served with notices to clear their indebtedness.
According to Mr. Dase, the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), the Tanoso Community Health Training School, the Municipal Hospital, which owed the company various sums of money had all responded by paying part of the monies, after they were served with notices.
He mentioned that Ministries, Department and Agencies owe huge amount of money to the company of which some of the defaulters were being processed for court.
The action of the company, he said was in response to a government directive to all public institutions in the country to pay their utility bills.
He said the company would use all possible and legitimate means to retrieve all monies owed it by institutions and individuals in the region in order to provide quality service to its customers.
