GTV to seek govt assistance

GHANA TV has requested from the government for a financial support to help them purchase broadcasting rights for the 2015 AFCON tournament to Ghanaians, Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga has revealed.

GBC is struggling to raise the $50,000 amount needed to purchase the rights to broadcast the games to national and international audience and viewers.

This means football fanatics in the country without Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) in their homes will have no chance of watching this month’s African Cup of Nations on the GBC channels as the nation broadcaster says it cannot afford to pay for broadcasting rights.

“I have already been approached by the national broadcaster to discuss this matter because, they usually have to buy the media rights

“We are having discussions and whatever the case [would be] Ghanaians would have to watch [the games.

“It is not the question of how much it cost but how much do they have and how much they expect the government to put in, to support.”
