‘Grow local industries to become more viable’

Government must take bold steps to grow the local industries to become more viable and competitive, Oheneba Adusei Poku, the Akyempimhene has said.

He said efforts should be focused on strengthening the manufacturing sector to bring in foreign exchange and keep the economy on an even keel.

A Ghana News Agency said the Akyempimhene was speaking at the official launch of a ‘Grand Sales’ in Kumasi by Ashphil International Ghana (AIG).

The two-week event to be held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, from December 18 to January 3, 2016, would provide an outlet for companies to showcase and market their products.

It would be organised under the theme: “Improving the trading industry in Ghana”.

Oheneba Adusei Poku said every effort must be made to establish a business-friendly environment for local enterprises to thrive to create wealth and jobs for the population.

“The situation where Ghanaians were supporting the economies of other nations through unrestrained importation of almost everything needed to change,” he said.

Mr. David Asiamah, the Chief Executive Officer of AgroMindset Group, a company into agricultural production, said there was the need to give strong support to young people eager to go into business.

He said it should not be difficult for them to access loans to set up their enterprises.

Mrs. Habiba Nyarko Fosu-Poku of the AIG said the fair seeks to highlight the region’s investment opportunities.
