Aggrieved members of the Kudzragbe Divisional Council in the Ada area have staged a peaceful demonstration to protest against the indiscriminate sale of lands.

They demanded that the leaders of the Kudzragbe Divisional Council should either render account for the lands sold over the years or face legal action.

The demonstrators held placards with inscriptions such as, “We shall not tolerate fraudulent sale  of Kudzragbe lands’, ‘We no go sit down make them cheat us every day’,  ‘We need development’, ‘Respect the office of the chief priest’ and ‘Stop using Kudzragbe land for litigation’.

The spokesman for the group, Mr. Rockson Sewornoo, claimed the leaders of the Divisional Council had not accounted for the lands sold.

Addressing the media, he said the leaders of the Kudzragbe Divisional Council were also spending huge sums of money on litigations at the law courts, under the pretext of fighting trespassers on the land belonging to the clan.

Mr. Sewornoo said the state of affairs was gradually creating tension in the community, as the members of the clan felt cheated, and especially as both written and verbal attempts to get an explanation from the leaders of the Kudzragbe Divisional Council had proven futile.

He called on the government to intervene in the matter to prevent lawlessness in the area, saying the community fears that in future there would not be lands for projects which would benefit the entire community.
