Greater Accra NCCE Organises Intra-District Quiz Competition

The Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held an intra-district/inter regional office constitution quiz last week.

The quiz competition which was supported by Promasidor Ghana Ltd, producers of Cowbell range of products went through preliminary stages with four offices qualifying for the finals.

These are Ablekuma Sub-Metro office, Ashiama District office, Tema and Ada District offices.

The quiz, which was the first of its kind, and the brainchild of the Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the commission is intended to be an annual programme.

According to the Greater Accra Regional Director, Mrs Funny Kumah, the intra-district office constitution quiz for the staff was to increase and sharpen workers’ knowledge of the 1992 Constitution and other relevant and complementary civic education materials to enhance their performance as civic educators.

This she said, would hopefully help demystify the constitution and encourage its mastery to make it easier to impart same to the Ghanaian citizenry.

Mrs Kumah further stressed that the core objective of the quiz was to build the capacity of staff to enable them deliver more effectively within their respective jurisdictions at all times and to promote among staff greater interest and continuous research and study of Ghana’s constitution.

In a related development, the Greater Accra Regional Director, has said that, Article 41, of the 1992 Constitution, pointed out the duties of a citizen and related it to the current outbreak of the cholera epidemic, and called all citizens to protect and safeguard the environment.

She emphasised that, in as much as city authorities were doing their bit to keep the environment clean it behoves all citizens to support the authorities to keep a clean environment.

She cautioned against improper disposal of refuse into open drains, over flowing sewerage in communities which were sure ways of spreading cholera.

The Greater Accra Directorate is collaborating with relevant agencies, the district assembly and the Ghana Health Service to intensify education on the prevention and spread of the disease.
