Black Stars Head Coach, Avram Grant is expected to announce his squad for the upcoming 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) next month in Gabon next week.
Grant, who is due in the country by this weekend, according to a source at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would submit his provisional list of 30 players for the GFA and the Black Stars Management Committee for scrutiny before going public with the list.
The source revealed that the team would begin a non-residential camping from December 27 before emplaning to Dubai to begin the second phase of preparation ahead of the tournament.
In Dubai, the team would engage in two high profile friendly games before the list is prune down to the final 23 for the competition.
On the purported Black Stars squad list making rounds in the section of the media, the source called on the general public to disregard it, stating that it is a figment of someone’s imagination and that the real list is yet to be brought out by the coach.
Ghana’s quest for a fifth Nations Cup honours would face a stern test yet again having been drawn in Group D alongside familiar foes Egypt, Uganda and Mali.
The Black Stars are in the same World Cup qualifying group with Egypt and Uganda and have only managed a point from two games against them, and will go to the tournament expecting Coach Grant to pick his best squad.
Ghana would open her tournament account on January 17 in Port-Gentil against Uganda and face seven times tournament champions Egypt four days later before playing their last group game against Mali on January 25.
Coach Grant would be hoping to go a step further than he did two years ago in Equatorial Guinea where his side lost 9-8 on penalty shootout to Ivory Coast in the finals.
