Govt to publish Ayawaso West Wuogon C’ssion report Information Minister

The Government has caused the inquiry report of the Ayawaso West Wougon Commission to be published.

The decision to submit the report for gazetting and publication is in accordance with Article 280 clause 3 of the 1992 constitution.

 Article 280 clause (3) states that, “The President shall, subject to clause (4) of this article caused to be published the report of a commission of inquiry together with a white paper on it within six months after the date of the submission of the report by the commission.”

Briefing the media on the latest development, the Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said government had further caused a white paper on the report to be published alongside.

He explained that the issuance of the white paper was also in accordance with the law and this followed a careful study of the report.

Following the violence that broke out on January 31, this year during the by-election of the Ayawaso West Wougon constituency, the President, coming under Article 278 clause (1) of the constitution, on February 8, established a commission of inquiry to conduct enquiries into the happenings of the day and make recommendations for redress.

The commission concluded its work and submitted its report to the President on March 14, 2019 for study and take action according to the law.
