The government has presented nine buses and five pick-ups to selected educational institutions in the Upper East Region, to enhance teaching and learning in the area.
The beneficiary Senior High Schools, include Bawku, Bolgatanga, Zuarungo, Chiana, St Benedict, and Bolgatanga Technical Senior High, Gbeogo School for the Deaf, St John Bosco’s College of Education.
The rest are the Bolgatanga Polytechnic, the Gbewaa College of Education, Paga Senior High School and the Bolgatanga Technical Institute.
Presenting the vehicles, Mr. Albert Abongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, said that the St John Bosco’s College of Education, Gbewaa College of Education, Sirigu Senior High, Navrongo Senior High and the Zoko Senior High School would also get vehicles.
He emphasised the determination of the government to raise the standard of education in the country to build the needed human resource base.
Mr Abongo said government was providing enough school infrastructure, and cited the Community Day Senior High Schools in the rural communities, and appealed to the beneficiary schools to maintain the facilities.
Mr. Thomas Awiah, Public Relations Officer for Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, expressed gratitude to government for the presentation and appealed to the authorities to provide the remaining schools with vehicles.
