The vehicles comprise of 20 Toyota Land Cruisers, 19 Toyota Hilux pickups and 25 Toyota Corolla saloon cars.

The Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, making the presentation said the vehicle would help facilitate mobility and operations of the Ghana Police Service.

“Indeed we would see this from time to time, we cannot hold on because we are in dire need of transport therefore as the consignments arrive we would hand them over to the police,” he added.

He urged the Police Service to use the vehicles effectively to make Ghana safe.

Mr Ambrose Dery debunked claims that Government would remove Cap- 30, the current pension scheme for security agencies.

“Government would not permit a migration that would have detrimental effect on the benefits that you enjoy and therefore I am told that the GPS would not be removed from Cap-30,”he added.

“It is the wish of the President that all security agencies must be adequately compensated before going on early retirement so be assured that it will come,” he added.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante Apeatu in receiving the vehicles said the handing over of the vehicles was the third batch since the assumption of office of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He commended Government for its commitment in retooling the Police Service with new vehicles to augment their fleet to enhance mobility as well as operational capacity of the Service.

Mr Asante-Apeatu assured that the vehicle would be used for its intended purpose and also maintained to prolong their lifespan.

Present at the ceremony was members of the Police Management Board, Deputy Minister for Interior, Mr Henry Quartey and Mrs Adelaide Annoh- Kumi, Chief Director of the Ministry of Interior.
