Govt condemns NDC Kumasi shooting

The government has condemned the reported shooting incident at the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Regional Headquarters in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, which left one person dead and another seriously injured.

It has, therefore, urged the police to expedite investigations into the case to bring the perpetrators of last Monday’s incident to book.

Following its preliminary investigations into incident, the Police have said they were on a manhunt for Husein Barnabas, also known as Warrior, Damos, Mejima and Abu Taliban, who were linked to a pro-NDC Vigilante Group, the Hawks.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, and signed by Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, expressed the condolences of the government to the bereaved family, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

According to the police, the casualties resulted from the indiscriminate shots fired by some gun-wielding men on motorcycle, who invaded the premises of the Regional Headquarters of the NDC during a meeting between the National and Regional Executives.

“Government reiterates that violence should be eschewed from all spheres of our national life. Citizens and groups are further encouraged to desist from actions that create a state of insecurity in our nation,” the statement said.
