Government Has Taken Steps To Protect Oil And Gas Sector

Emmanuel-BuahThe government has taken comprehensive steps to ensure that   Ghanaians derive maximum benefit from the oil and gas resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah Minister of Energy and Petroleum, has assured.

“We have vowed that Ghana will be different and we are taking bold   steps to ensurethat the oil find becomes a blessing and not a curse,” he added.

Mr.Buah was speaking at the launch of the Jubilee Technical Training Center (JTTC), here last week.
The JTTC is part of the Jubilee Partners and Takoradi Polytechnic collaboration sought to equip the highly trained technicians with skills to provide maintenance engineering services.

The Minister said key policies had been taken to ensure that the petroleum revenue    was managed transparently.
He said the Ghana Navy, the Airforce, the Police Marine Unit and other relevant institutions are also being resourced to effectively onitor and protect the country’s oil and gas resources.

He said 20 billion dollars has been earmarked for critical investment for the next five years in the petroleum sector to upgrade the oil and gas sector.

The Deputy Western Regional Minster, Mr.Alfred  Ekow Gyan,noted that the inauguration of the centre marked  a new era in the  life  of the Takoardi Polytechnic  to contribute to the manpower needs of the  oil and gas industry.

He said since the discovery of oil in commercial quantities in 2007, the government  had shown strong confidence in the  operations  of the oil producing companies  inGhana  especially the Jubilee  partners saying,  “this had been demonstrated with  planned  development  of the Tweneboah, Enyera, Ntumme(TEN) project.”
The government, he said, is confident that the companies would continue to reciprocate this confidence by adhering to thestandard practices of the specialized industry in the area of environmental protection,corporate social responsibility and  local content participation.
