Ghanaians display their third place trophy

France U-12 baseball team beat Cote d’Ivoire by 13 runs to 7 to emerge unbeaten winners of the Association Francophone de Baseball and Softball competition at the Bingerville Centre Anader, Cote d Ivoire.

The five innings game played within two and half hours showcased talent mixed with determinations from the Ivorians who wanted to make it a ‘host and win’ campaign.

That seemed a huge reality after they held the French side to a scoreless first inning.

But luck run out for the Ivorians side as the French recorded a 3 run score to nil at the end of the second inning. Both teams increased their tally to 9 runs to 4 at the end of the third and fourth innings against the Ivorians.

It was fireworks between the two teams as the pitchers of both sides strive to strike out their opposing batters with the fielders tagging out any runner who tries to steal a base during these innings.

Team France, however, overpowered the Ivorians at the last inning to record 4 runs to 3, increasing the scores to 13 runs to 7 in favour of the French team.

Earlier, Team Ghana had humbled Burkina Faso by 15 runs to 3 to place third at the end of five innings.

Each team received a trophy for the various positions and medals for each player at the competition.

Specials awards including Most Valuable Player (MVP) went to a player from France, Best Batter (BB) going to a Ghanaian and Best Pitcher (BP) going to an Ivorian player.

Umpiring Clinic was also organized alongside the games for officials and participants awarded with attestation and a level one diploma certificate after a short examination.
