The Tema Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service has warned industrial companies to keep to the tenets of Fire Precautions (Premises) Regulations, Act 243, or risk sanctions.
ACFO Frances Rockson, Tema Regional Fire Commander, gave the warning on an unannounced visit to Tower Aluminium Ghana Limited, formerly Ghana Aluminium Company.
The Regional Commander said, she would continue to pay unannounced visits to companies in the Tema Industrial Enclave, to see at first hand, the conditions under which workers work.
She stressed that the Regional Command was poised to protect lives and the huge investments made in the industrial enclave.
ACFO Rockson praised Tower Aluminium, for having an up to date Fire Certificate, which was renewed in December last year.
She, however, urged the company to train all permanent workers in fire safety to effectively protect lives and property.
The Tema Regional Commander expressed her unhappiness at the visible cracks in the Sales Office of the company and issued a one (1) month ultimatum to the company to rectify the structural defects or face sanctions.
She also asked management of the company to provide personal protective equipment, for the workers.
She urged other players in the industry to place premium on the safety of their workforce to ensure the protection of lives and properties as this will protect the huge investments they have made in the economy.
Mr V. L. Rami, the Manager of Tower Aluminium Ghana Limited, thanked the Regional Commander and her team and promised to take remedial measures of all the recommendations within the stipulated time.
