The Global Evangelical Church Choirs Union as part of its 2016 triennial national rally has donated assorted items and GH¢2,000.00 to the Kpando Prisons.
The items valued at GH¢4,000.00 included bags of maize, rice, sugar, beans, gari, salt, some beverages, toilet rolls, plantain, palm oil and used clothes.
Rev. Emmanuel Teimah Barrigah, Director of Church Life and Nurture of the Global Evangelical Church, who presented the items said the union obeyed the word of God, which urged all Christains to reach out to the poor and needy in society.
He explained that the union strategically selected the Kpando Local Prisons so that they could preach to the inmates, evangelise and share the word of God with them.
Rev. Barrigah said the union considered the donation as part of its social responsibility.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Eric Ainoo-Ansah, who received the items, thanked the union for the gesture.
He said the care for the prison inmates was not the duty of the Prisons Service alone but a shared responsibility.
CSP Ainoo-Ansah indicated that, caring for inmates was beyond feeding but included visits, praying for as well as preaching to them to make them feel better people.
“Your presence makes them feel accepted and also part of the society,” he said.
The leadership of the union and clergy of the church preached and prayed for the inmates, some of whom gave their lives to Jesus Christ.
Madam Helen Ntoso, the Volta Regional Minister and Mrs. Paulina Adinyira, the Kpando Municipal Chief Executive were also there to lend their support.
