Ghana’s mission briefs MoYS

The Ghana Embassy in Equatorial Guinea has given the Ministry of Youth and Sports an adequate briefing on what to expect during the forthcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by the west-central African country from January 17 to February, 2015.

According to the Ghana Mission, there are three major hotels in Mongomo – where the Black Stars will be based. These are Hotel Akoakam, Hotel Mongomo and Hotel OvonoNfa. These hotels, according to information gathered by the mission, may accommodate the football teams.

The Ghanaian mission said it was able to make arrangements for six houses of a total of 52 bedrooms with fees ranging from CFA 50,000 (US$100) to CFA 80, 000 (US$160) per room. The apartments are located on the same compound and it is walled and gated.

It noted that that it is also possible that the Ghanaian team would relocate to Malabo at a later stage.

On flight arrangements in Malabo, it said there are two main Airlines from Accra to Malabo – Punto Azul Airlines and Ceiba airlines. On internal flight arrangements, Punto Azul Airlines, Ceiba Airlines and Cronos Airlines which fly from Malabo to Bata for approximately 55,000 CFA (US$110) one-way and 110,000 CFA (US$220) return ticket, are available.

Ceiba Airlines also flies directly from Malabo to Mongomoyen Airport for approximately 65,000 CFA (US$130) one way.

Traveling by road from Mongomoyen Airport to Mongomo city is approximately 20 minutes, while   travelling by road from Bata to Mongomo city is two hours approximately, it added.

The sector ministry wishes to advice all prospective football officials and supporters to make arrangements before the scheduled date considering that there are few hotels and private residences on rent in Mongomo with a high demand due to the influx of people during the football period.
