A senior journalist of the Ghanaian Times,Mrs Anita Nyarko-Yirenkyi, was among five other journalists, who were last Friday honoured by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in recognition of their selfless reportage and dedication to the works of the Department.
Mrs Nyarko-Yirenkyi and her colleagues were presented with a plaque and citation at the West African Security Services Association (WASSA) of the CID organised in Accra.
The programme which was on the theme: ‘Consolidating ideas against vigilantism for national safety’, was under the distinguished patronage of Mrs Akosua Frema Osei- Opare, Chief of Staff at the Presidency.
Dignitaries danced to music provided by the Police Central band and artistes such as Bernice Ansah and Patapaa.
The Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police (COP), Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, commended the media personnel for their collaboration with the Police Service over the years and called for more of such collaboration, adding that “the media is very crucial in the dissemination of news to the public.”
The Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs Adelaide Annoh-Kumi, assured the police of the government’s continuous support to help them to achieve their mandate and commended the personnel for ensuring peace and stability even at the peril of their lives.
“I advise you to continue to be professional and decorous in the manner you treat people you come into contact with in the course of your work,” Mrs Annoh-Kumi.
She urged the public to report activities of criminals to the police to ensure the society is safe and identities of such informants would be protected.
The other journalists were Mrs Linda Tenyah-Aryeetey of Daily Guide, Peter Adator, TV 3, Mary Mensah, Daily Graphic and Anas Siedu of Citi FM.
