GHANA’s boxing referee and judge, Roger Barnor will leave for South Africa tonight for the weekend’s WBA International featherweight championship in South Africa.
Barnor was selected among other top boxing officials to officiate the bout that pitches South African boxer, Simphiwe Vetyeka and Columbia’s Rodolfo Puentes for the WBA title in the South African city of East London.
The championship which is being promoted by Sujita Boxing Promotions is slated for Saturday, November 28, 2015.
Vetyeka comes into the fight with an impressive record of 30-27-3 with 16 coming through the short route while Puentes boasts of a 16-1-2 with 12 of the wins coming with knockdowns.
His appointment follows impressive performances exhibited by the young and promising Ghanaian referee in previous encounters in South Africa, the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.
“It is a good sign that officiating-wise, Ghana is not performing badly at all. Now that our boxers are finding it difficult to keep out flags up in the international rings, maybe one of the ways we can prove to the boxing world is that we are still alive is when more of us are selected for fights of this magnitude,” he told the Times Sport yesterday.
