Ghana still ranked 26th

GHANA remained in 26th position for the FIFA World ranking released yesterday for the month of May.

The Black Stars also stayed the third best national team on the continent behind Algeria (27th) and Cote D’Ivoire (23rd).

Ghana are still on 833 points with the results of only three matches taken into account.

The three games in question were friendlies between USA and Mexico (2-0) and Suriname and Guyana (1-0), as well as the abandoned UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier between Russia (27th, up 5) and Montenegro (75th, down 5) on 27 March, which has now been declared as a 3-0 victory for Russia.

Germany (1st, unchanged) continue to lead the way ahead of Argentina (2nd, unchanged) and Belgium (3rd, unchanged).

Meanwhile,in-form Nathaniel Asamoah grabbed a brace to hand the local Black Stars a 2-0 win over Asokwa Deportivo in a friendly played last Wednesday.

The match forms part of the team’s preparations towards their campaign in the 2015 COSAFA Cup tournament to be staged in South Africa.

The team that is currently based in Obuasi fired two goals past the second tier team in the friendly courtesy Medeama striker Nathaniel Asamoah.

The local Black Stars are expected to travel to face South Sudan in another friendly before beginning their challenge in the COSAFA Cup
