The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) on Tuesday donated assorted items and an undisclosed money to the Ga Dangbe Chief Priests “Wolomei” Association, in Accra, towards the celebration of this year’s ‘Homowo’ festival.
These include 10 bunches of palm fruits, 10 gallons of palm oil, 10 bags of maize, a bull and bottles of Schnapps.
The sector Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, who made the presentation, said the donation was in support of the celebration of the festival.
She said: “The Ga Mashie is a densely populated area where many people visit the chief priests, who are the religious leaders, during such occasions,” adding that the priests needed the items to enable them to assist the vulnerable in the community.
She appealed to the priests, chiefs and people of Ga Mashie to observe the festival peacefully, and assured them of the ministry’s continuous support.
The Vice President of the Association, Numo Nikoi Amasa II, commended the ministry for the gesture and gave the assurance that the items would be used for its intended purposes.
He appealed to the people of Ga State to ensure peace during the festival, especially the sprinkling of the “Kpoikpoi”, traditional food.
