GCB Bank Board dismisses media reports

The Board of Directors of GCB Bank Ltd, has described as false publications of impropriety leveled against the Board Chairman and some executives of the bank regarding granting of loans.

“I wish to state categorically that these allegations are false and designed to discredit the board.

“As a listed company, GCB Bank has followed strict procedures for all operations over the past several years and continues to do so “the Board Chairman, Mr. Daniel Owiredu, said in a statement released yesterday in Accra.

He said, it was unfortunate that media houses who are publishing such falsehood did not take the time to verify the machinations with GCB or the board before publishing them. “

GCB is a publicly listed company and all documents are available for public scrutiny. The Bank has achieved great recognition both in Ghana and internationally as one of the leading banks currently and it is unfortunate that certain individuals are scheming to discredit the bank for reasons which are difficult to understand” he said.

The Board Chairman stated that he had utmost respect for the media fraternity and would encourage and welcome any media house that wishes to print stories about GCB to verify their facts in order to produce a balanced reportage.

Mr Owiredu said, the Bank had lodged a strong complaint with the National Media Commission regarding the falsehood and it was his hope that the potential negative impact on investor confidence and the Bank’s reputation, image and share price would be considered before such misguided attempts at defamation were made.

“GCB is one of our longest standing institutions and one which we are all proud of as Ghanaians. The bank has come a long way in revamping its operations and turning itself around and it will be very unfortunate if we allow all the hard work put in by its staff and management over the past several years to be eroded. Let’s be circumspect in protecting its image and reputation” he said.
