The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) will on December 22 hold a special boxing championship to honour former president of the federation, Ambassador Ray Quarcoo.

The event, according to the President of the Federation, Mr George Lamptey, will bring together some of the finest amateur boxers in the country and staged at the Premier Beach at Kokrobite, a suburb of Accra.

It is to commemorate the 88th birthday anniversary of the celebrated boxing administrator which falls on December 19.

“Every follower of amateur boxing in this country would recognise Ambassador Ray Quarcoo’s contribution and support for amateur boxing. He was not just an administrator but a major financier of the group’s activities.”

“I believe this would be the right time to prove to him that we are people that recognise the contributions of our leaders. He’s done a lot for us. A number of our boxers, both pro and amateurs all want to be part of the celebration.”

He said though a number of boxers have shown interest to participate, the GBF was yet to finish with the compilation of the fixtures but assured it would soon be announced.
