GBA suspends McDon Promotions

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has suspended Chief Executive Officer of McDon Multimedia Promotions, McDon Atsitsogbe, for issuing dud cheques meant for the payment of boxer’s purses and ring officials in the aftermath of a bout dubbed the first of fury at the Accra Sports Stadium on December 5, 2014.

According to the Ghana Boxing Authority, all the cheques which the promoter deposited with the Authority prior to the fight in accordance with the rules were dishonoured by the banks upon presentation as it turned out that his accounts did not have the requisite finances to honor his obligation.

Sources close to sportscrusader.com have it that McDon owes the Boxing Authority to the tune of GH¢70,000 and all efforts by the GBA to receive the money from the boxing promoter have proven futile.

The GBA has lodged a formal complaint to the Ghana Police Service against McDon Boxing Authority according to the General Secretary of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Patrick Johnson.

“Yes it’s true, the Ghana Boxing Authority has suspended McDon license, he is yet to oblige his payment and we don’t know where he is.

“Barley two days after the fight night, Mr. Atsitsogbe absconded without settling the outstanding obligation and has since remained in silence and that is why the GBA has taken that decision.

Information gathered by sportscursader.com has it that the Ghana Boxing Authority has been compelled to solicit for funds elsewhere to remedy the situation.

In another development, Commonwealth title holder, Richard Commey has started talking tough ahead of his epic clash with South African opponent Sipho Taliwe at Kempton Park on March 21, 2015.

Commey who is currently sparring and training in the United Kingdom will prove tough an opponent for the South African based boxer.

The “Azonto” King’s unbeaten 19 fights will add up to his game if he wants to make a statement in South Africa when he slug it out with Sipho Taliwe according to his trainer, Carl Lokko.

“The date and time for the bout has been communicated to us, but as to when we will live UK is yet to be known because we still have some things to sort out first”.

“For us we are always ready for any opponent; we don’t care if the fight is in Ghana or South Africa, Commey is ready; he has been training and sparring with top boxers.

“Is all good for him and so we have to wait and see on the said date, Carl Lokko told sportscrusader.com
