Galamsayer Dies In Pit

A 23-year-old illegal miner (galamseyer) met his death when the pit in which he was working blasted at a site at Tinga, in the Northern Region.

The deceased, Mr Hudu Dakurah, died in the late hours of Friday and his remains were dug up on Sunday evening for burial by family members.

Eye-witnesses told The Ghanaian Times that the deceased had, earlier on, set fire in the pit and was waiting for blasting as is the usual trend for the galamsey operation.

According to them the pit could not produce the required liquid needed for the blasting to take place.
Dakurah, therefore, descended into it to correct the problem.

Unfortunately for him, his arrival at the bottom of the pit was welcomed by the long awaited blast which led to his death on the spot.

It took members of his family who did not notify the police about the incident 24 hours to bring out the corpse and convey it to his hometown for burial.

The deceased is said to have been involved in gaslamsey for the past six years. From Lydia Darington Fordjor, Wa
