The Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) will hold a special tournament to begin selection into the national team, the Black Bombers, at the DG Hathiramani Sports Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium on June 4-6.
It will be the first exercise of the new administration, led by Gideon Quartey, and aims at raising a new generation of boxers to compete with the current boxers in the team for places.
The federation’s immediate plan is to build a formidable squad to represent Ghana at the August All Africa Games competition in Congo Brazzaville, and the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
Accordingly, the GABF has informed boxers, gyms, club owners and regional federations that registration for the week-long exercise has commenced, and urged them to contact the federation’s secretariat to go through the process.
Acting Secretary of the federation, Mr. Theophilus Edwin Addo told the Times Sports yesterday that a registration fee of GH¢20.00 will be charged for each registered member.
Registration, he said, could end tomorrow.
