The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Mr Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson has presented 8,000 mathematical sets to be distributed to Junior High School final year students in the municipality.

This is an initiative to support the students in their 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both public and private schools.

Mr Wilkinson said the gesture was his personal contribution towards the development of education in both private and public schools in the area.

He noted that one of the major problems affecting the standard of education in the country is inadequate supervision in public basic schools as compared to the private ones.

“We must change our attitude as government workers and must be patriotic enough to see government institutions and properties as our belongings,” he added.

Mr Wilkinson said education is important to a country’s socio-economic and political development and helped to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.

Mr Addo Akuffo, the Ga West Municipal Director of Education, who received the items on behalf of the schools, expressed gratitude to the MCE for his kind gesture and gave the assurance that the school authorities would ensure that the materials were given to the pupils.

He called on all stakeholders in the education sector to contribute their quota to ensure that children get quality and accessible education.
